This Month-Long Event and is Open to the Public at these Participating Wineries:
Prior to the game day deadline, customers must do at least three tasting to complete a hand for the Frederick Wine Trail Poker Run. Participants are not limited to only 5 cards and may obtain as many cards as they like so long as there are not duplicates. At each stop on the run, the participant’s server will become the dealer and will provide each a playing card at the completion of the tasting. If a player receives a card that they already have the dealer should re-deal them a card so that they have no duplicate cards. Only five cards will be used to build the best winning hand, there are no “wild cards” allowed, and players are not allowed to buy extra cards at any point. No cards will be available at any of the wineries on the game day.
During Gameday, each winery will have a station to sell and sample their wines. There will be live music, food vendors and multiple rounds of poker with a dynamic legend key. Sign in will occur at the gate one hour prior to the first hand of poker. Each participant will present all their cards at sign in and those cards only will be allowed for each hand dealt. For each hand dealt a new legend is created and the cards will randomly change. For instance, a Linganore Chardonnay card might be an Ace of diamonds one hand and a Nine of spades the next. The challenge is to make the best hand out of the five cards played. For those with more than five cards, only 5 cards can play per hand. Groups up to 8 can pool their cards and will play together. Individuals and couples (2 people) will play together.
The poker hands are scored using standard poker hand rankings as follows: Royal flush, straight flush, four of a kind, full house, flush, straight, three of a kind, two pairs, one pair, high card. There will be? hands of poker that will be played with a dynamic legend, meaning that after each hand played the legend will change giving each card a different value and the players a new chance at winning. Information on when/where the prizes can be picked up will be posted on a large board centrally located where all can see on game day.
